ABOUT US

Nicole McCleary

Nicole was born and raised in York. She stayed local and graduated from York College, then relocated to Washington, D.C. where she obtained her master’s degree from American University. She went on to work in the United States House of Representatives, where she served as a senior legislative aide.

Nicole and her husband returned to York eight years ago so they could raise their daughter in a place that more closely matches their values. They chose the York Suburban School District because of its elite academic reputation. If elected, Nicole would be the only board member who is the mother of a child currently attending a York Suburban school. With a daughter in elementary school who has eight more years to go in the district, Nicole has a personal, long-term interest in maintaining York Suburban’s excellence.

Nicole will combine her love and dedication as a mother with her experience researching and analyzing public policy to provide transparency, accountability, fiscal responsibility and high-quality education for our district.

James Sanders

James currently serves as a Board Member for the York Suburban School District. He is a 1993 graduate of York Suburban who moved back to the District in 2010 after spending 10 years in New York City. Buying a home in the York Suburban School District was a no-brainer because of its excellent academic track record.

When deciding to run for the School Board, a key factor was James’ desire to give back to the local community which gave so much to him. He believes his role as a Board Member is to make the best possible decisions which are based on his values and experience. He also thinks an effective School Board is one that provides transparency, fiscal discipline, academic excellence and makes decisions based on the needs of the local constituents. Lastly, politics should have no role in these decisions.

After graduating from York Suburban, James attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned a dual degree in Economics and Business, a law degree and an MBA. He started his career as an Equity Analyst following a variety of sectors for Standard & Poor’s, Citigroup and Bessemer Trust. He also held a senior strategy role with ITT Corporation’s Fluid Handling business. In 2010, he moved back to York and took over his family’s business. He purchased a second business in 2012 and ultimately exited both in 2018. He is currently a partner with MPL Law Firm focused on business and transactional legal work.

James’ current community involvements include the YMCA of York and York County, SCORE, the Rotary Club of York and the York Suburban Lacrosse Club. He has also served as a Board member of the York Suburban Educational Foundation and the Children’s Home of York. He believes strongly in giving back to the local community. He lives in York with his wife of 20+ years, their three sons and two dogs.
